Our story
Film breakdown shouldn’t take all night.
We started BenchStats because high school coaches spend hours breaking down film by hand, and most of that time goes into finding plays instead of teaching them.
The problem
What we kept seeing
Pause. Rewind. Tally. Repeat.
One game can mean a late night with the film, a remote and a sheet of paper, before any coaching happens.
The numbers and the film live apart
A box score says you turned it over 14 times. It doesn’t show you which plays, or why.
Scouting starts from scratch every week
Every new opponent means another stack of film to watch before you know what they run.
Why we started
Started by someone who ran into the problem
I started BenchStats because I ran into this problem myself, and the tools built to solve it were too expensive for most programs. We’re building it for programs like yours, with a free trial on your own film first.
We built BenchStats around one idea: a coach should be able to click any number and watch the plays behind it. Everything else, the possessions, the tags and the scouting, follows from that.
What we believe
How we build it
Unconfirmed beats wrong
When the film can’t settle a call, BenchStats says so instead of guessing. A wrong stat costs a coach more than a missing one.
You can always check it
Every number links to the possessions behind it, and every tag can be corrected. Nothing is a black box.
Your film is yours
You own it and you can delete it any time. It stays private to your program, and it isn’t sold or shared with other teams. Privacy and film rights
First coaches
Try it on your own games
We’re looking for the first coaches to run their own film through BenchStats this season. You’ll see what it does with a real game, and what you tell us decides what we build next.
